I'm thinking of moving from Ft. Lauderdale, FL to Austin, TX. What is it like there?

Besides the fact that is has a great music scene and parts of it are considered a college town, can you tell me what it is like in terms of the people, ethnic backgrounds, weather, housing, etc. I'm looking to move to a nice city that is considered somewhat "all american" and laidback, but still sophisticated, warm but not warm all year around, and just a nice place to live. Can anyone please tell me about their perspective of Austin?
